Amcor ALD12000EH 12000-BTU Portable Air Conditioner and Heater

Editorial Review:

The Amcor ALD 12000EH portable air conditioner is designed to fit most average-size rooms up to 400sq.ft. This model also functions as a 65 pint dehumidifier. Self Evaporating Technology - During the cooling process, water is extracted from the air into the unit. Most of this water is then recycled and used to cool the unit and make it run more efficiently. Approximately 65 to 70% of water condensed is evaporated out with the exhaust air, reducing the hassle of emptying the water tank constantly. This unit has a built-in water tank (not removable) with a drain outlet, and a water tube. When the tank fills, the compressor stops operating and the power light will flash. This indicates that the tank should be emptied. Included with the unit is a window and a wall exhaust kit. AC must be vented via exhaust hose (included). If your room has a heat source such as direct sunlight or computer servers, the AC coverage area may be reduced.

works as a heater but not as an air conditioner:

We bought this unit for its A/C function but it has failed miserably. It hardly cools a room of any size. After 2 hours, the most this unit would do is to drop 3 degrees Fahrenheit in a small corner of the room while the rest of the room's temperature remains unchanged. One of the main problems might be due to the heat that its hose radiates. I have used insulators bought from the hardware store but they didn't help. The hose temperature can reach as high as 130 degrees! As a heater, this unit works fine.... more info

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE PRODUCT:

Have a ALD12000 (no heater) bought less than 2 years ago. It no longer is cooling (probably compressor). Calls for assistance go unanswered. Getting (No one here to assist you...hangup) or (Leave a message we will get back to you. They don't) or (Try to leave them a message and their mailbox is full!)

Arrived damaged:

Have no idea how well the unit actually works - it arrived damage so I never plugged it in. The cabinet broke away from the base of the unit during shipping. This appears to be due partially to the design of the unit (this junction was weak) and packaging (being weak, it was even more important to support it for shipping.) Given that the unit weighed about 90 lbs, it was not pleasant to pull it out of the packaging, only to have to re-package it to return it. However, the return went smooth and my purchase... more info

We have 6 of these in our offices. They're greyt!:

Over the years, we've acquired SIX of these units for our hermetically sealed offices. We have no windows that can be opened and the building temperature will vary from 63 degrees to 85 degrees from one day to the next. We're on the 5th floor and have nowhere to vent units to the outside. Yes, these units have 4" discharge hoses that need to vent away from the space being heated or cooled but we solved the problem by installing venting into the dropped ceilings and the hot air or cold air being discharged... more info
