I use the P400 in low humidity conditions in the desert - buying the P400 was a worthwhile purchase and I am glad I bought it - it does cool the air and is portable but it takes a lot of water to cool the air - putting the water in is inconvenient as the fill door is small and that is its only problem for me - when putting the water in, it is difficult for me not to get water on the floor and filling the P400 with water must be done about every 3 hours of operation - to cool best one must learn how much...

best "swamp cooler" I've found: 
I went through several evaporative ("swamp") coolers before I found this gem. It does a great job cooling off a small house (~800 sq. ft.) and if you have a larger place, two or three of them will still cost you a lot less than comparable air conditioning. It's amazingly durable, and it lives up to its "Wispercool" name -- it's much, much quieter than any similar product. It's an over priced over sized fan: 
It doesn't do anything that my fan doesn't do. There is no air cooling. It just takes up space. Not thrilled with the customer service department. I've sent three emails now about returning the product. The first response I got didn't address my issue, and my second response looked like someone copied and pasted from their training manual. They even told me to contact them via email about making a return - as a response to me contacting them via email about making a return.

Evaporative cooler: 
I've had this cooler for about a week. It is very solid state. It has some drawbacks. All evaporative coolers need to be put in front of a window to draw in the hot air and be cooled through the water pad. This particular evaporative cooler, however, puts too much humidity into the room making it muggy. The other drawback is the filler spot is at floor level, so if you are elderly or have problems stooping, it may be a problem. I put mine on a table in front of a window, so it's not an issue.
