Not worth it: 
I have been trying for a month to finish the house that I designed using this software program. I have had repeated problems with the kitchen items. I installed a dishwasher but can not find a way to have it under the counter. It looks horrible, the same is happening when I try to install the cook top and wall oven. You can not design a custom shower either it is not worth the money and the 680 page user manual is a joke. Now I am looking for a new program.
Home Design & Remodel is more limited than you think: 
I believe the objective of this company is to trick consumers into buying both versions. Don't be confused. Home Design & Remodeling (HD&R) is not a different product from Platinum. It is Platinum with random features missing. Not just missing sophisticated features. It even comes with the Platinum manual. (think free trial version). Software like this has a significant learning curve so if you only have the Platinum Manual to look at, everytime you start to struggle, you won't know if you're...more info
Good product for beginners: 
I bought this software for my 13 year old daughter who wants some 'design software'. This produce fits the bill. She has been learning how to use the software on her own and is now refining her skills and exploring more features within the software. I would recommend it for someone who wants basic, easy to learn, easy to use design software. I would look beyond this product if you want to design your own home in depth.
With patience, it does the job: 
After living in our home for three years, we decided it was time to decorate. Having no aesthetic sense, the promise of software that lets us try changes without making them was very exciting. It works, kind of.
There are two products included in the box, one where you upload pictures and change colors of carpet or flooring, another where you actually create 3d models, without uploading pictures. I have primarly used the 3d modeling software.
